Psychic Scam

Dear Ruth,

I recently received a letter from a psychic in a foreign country who said she wanted to change my destiny from one of poor fortune to a higher financial level. In this day of ID Theft I was not as eager to believe that she had picked my name at random from all the names in the United States. She said there would be no fee but the last paragraph said how much she'd spent already - and any financial gift would be appreciated. What do you think?

Wondering

Dear Wondering,

Pay attention to what you're feeling. A stranger has told you bad luck is ahead unless you do what she/he tells you to do.

This scam has been around for decades. Be aware of the words he uses to frighten you; urgent... bad luck... important... take action immediately or something terrible will befall you... something financially or personally will happen to you in the next few weeks unless you do something important NOW!

Do not send money, or give any more information to this person. Use your common sense and intelligence. A person, you've never met, has contacted you to warn you of an upcoming calamity. Be careful.

Hot/Cold Spirits

Dear Ruth, I just finished reading your book, They Don’t See What I See. I borrowed it from a friend who asked me to read it because of my father, who passed away almost seven years ago. My mom remarried and rebuilt our home. The only space they didn’t change was her old room that I now sleep in. After my father died I kept his ashes in an urn in my room, but it was always so hot in there and neither my mom nor I could figure out why. (Ruth: Often heat from the spirit represents a healing of the body, mind).

One day two weeks ago I was cleaning my room and moved dad’s urn and ashes into another room. Now it’s super cold in my room no matter how many layers I put over me. (Ruth: Extreme cold represents the spirit trying to make a connection with you).

Your book is the only one I have read on ghost cleaning and now I totally believe that my father’s spirit is trying to contact me. I’m a little nervous to do it. Are there any tips you have to relax my body before I attempt to connect with him? I have never really gotten over the fact that he died. Do I need to let go before I try? Or will I be able to let go when I do? And how do I know that he has/hasn’t crossed over.

Any help would be great.
Spirit Thermostat

Dear Spirit Thermostat, My hunch is your father is trying to heal you or someone he loves through you. When a spirit emits a lot of heat, it is generally for a physical or emotional healing attempt. Cold sensations get more intense when the spirit is trying to communicate with you. Relax your body by thinking about happy, loving times you had together. Fear is the enemy. Love is the way. It is your father who won’t let go till you hear what he is trying to tell you. Pray for his peace of mind, and then ask him yes/no questions: do you want to tell me something… do you need me to tell Mom something… do you need help letting go? Then be still and listen to what comes into your thoughts. You may need to do this a few times before you understand. Just stay in a prayerful state of mind to reduce fears. Bless all your loved ones,

Spirit Power

Hi Ruth.

Your book inspired me to try to reach my husband in the spirit world. He passed away a couple of years ago, and my three children and I are still having a hard time. I’m not scared at all, just need to make the spirit connection.

I have read many books, taken classes, but as hard as I try, nothing I do helps me see or talk to my deceased spouse.

I am hoping you can tell me what to do. I need to communicate with him. I have so many unanswered questions.

Mother of Three

Be Careful What You Ask For

Dear Mother of Three,
A dear friend of mine wanted to see her mother, who had passed away five years earlier. Finally one night she awoke at 2AM and SAW her mother’s ghost at the foot of her bed. She screamed, “Go away, I can’t handle this.” She covered her head with the blanket and her mother left, never to return. She regretted her outburst, but it was too late.

You can avoid making the same mistake as my dear friend by focusing on what you want to say to your husband. Was he a good role model or an absent one? If you could have one more day with him, what would you want that day to include, a loving thanks, an apology, what you didn’t get to say before he died? Focus on these thoughts while gazing at his photo.
Speaking to a loved one in spirit is easy, especially when the spirit wants to talk to you too.

Everyone wants to SEE, but they don’t believe they can, so they don’t. You say you’re not afraid, but I suspect you are fearful of seeing a ghost.

You need to find inner peace with your spouse. Believe he can hear your thoughts and feel your love. He is reaching out to you like a radio signal. Trust there is a reason why you’re so consumed with thoughts of him.

The more you feel his energy, the closer you will get to seeing him. At first you will think you’re making up what you hear, until one day what you hear makes sense and you’ll know the voice you’re hearing is his. Then you’ll never doubt again.

Mysterious Phone Calls

Dear Ruth,

Strangest thing happened to me last evening while talking to my cousin in Georgia. We ended our call about 8PM because he needed to go to bed.

Around midnight I was talking to someone in California and kept getting beeped on the other line. The called ID said Georgia, but no number or name. When I switched over, all I got was crackling and static sounds. This kept happening and every time I'd get the same noises.

I waited till the morning and tried calling my cousin again, who said he didn't call during the night.

Before I get spooked again, can you give me an explanation for this?

Haunted

Dear Haunted,

Your experience leads me to believe you have a problem with the mechanical aspects of your phone. Often people will call the same phone number a few times thinking they’ve dialed wrong.

Before I assume someone from the other side was trying to contact you, I called the phone company and posed your experience to the man in charge of customer service who gave me the following ideas;
  1. either you or your cousin had not hung up the phone correctly...
  2. you may have had a cross connection with another phone...
  3. if your cousin to has the busy signal call back service this would explain why your phone kept ringing every five minutes and explain why his state name was on your caller ID.
  4. torn wire, trouble in the phone lines, a storm between your location and the caller’s home, the battery on your phone needs replacement, etc.
If it was a spirit calling, she or he will call again and again. If this doesn’t happen, assume you had a bad connection.

Let me know what happens.

Speech Training for Toddler

Dear Client,

Patience is the first thought I had about you after reading your 2 year-old daughter's speech question regarding her breathing interfering with her verbal communication.

You reminded me of how much patience I needed to help train my 2-1/2 year-old-child speak and breathe correctly so she could be understood by others. Her speech was garbled because of the cleft pallet she was born with.

Her speech therapist suggested I teach my daughter how to speak correctly through repetition and patience.

The theory was to begin a daily routine of saying unhurriedly and lovingly the same word correctly over and over whenever I fed her. She was a very slow eater due to the amount of food that inadvertently went through her cleft pallet instead of being chewed and swallowed.

Sometimes I’d sing the word or say it in a higher or lower voice to get her attention. Her eyes were on me all the time when she ate. She began to speak in my tone of voice, and breathe in and out like me.

Three months later she repeated the word correctly and clearly. I was ecstatic and wanted to shout to everyone that my child got it. Anyone could understand her.

In the months that followed I began to utter new words and, instead of three months she’d repeat the new expressions in a week or two.

I still required lots of patience but hope filled me with enthusiasm and renewed energy.

Good luck. Thank you for writing.

Speech Training

Dear Client,

Your email question reminded me of how much patience I needed to help train my 2-1/2-year-old daughter (just a few months older than your daughter), to speak and breathe correctly so she could be understood by others. Her words were garbled because of the cleft pallet she was born with.

My speech therapist taught me to begin a daily routine of saying unhurriedly and lovingly the same word correctly over and over whenever I felt my child. She was a very slow eater due to the amount of food that inadvertently went through her cleft pallet instead of being chewed and swallowed.

Sometimes I'd sing the word or say it in a higher or lower voice to get her attention. Her eyes were on me all the time when she ate. She began to speak in my tone of voice, and breathe in and out just like me.

Three months later she repeated the word correctly and clearly for the first time. I was ecstatic and wanted to shout to everyone that my child got it. Anyone could understand her.

In the months that followed I began to utter new words, and instead of three months, she'd repeat the new expressions in a week or two.

She got faster and each time she said a new word, I was filled with hope and renewed dedication.

Today my daughter is a psychiatric nurse whose words help people deal with their depression and needs.

It is my hunch that you will one day be a fine teacher for your daughter and others.

Good luck and thank you for writing a great question.
